Disability Awareness Birchington
A resource for disabled people and their carers / helpers
The purpose of Disability Awareness Birchington is to provide an umbrella of active support , guidance and information to residents of Birchington, including their families and carers, who are affected by any kind of disability.
Our aims are:
- To increase local awareness of people with disabilities and their needs
- To assist and promote the active involvement of people with disabilities within the village of Birchington
- To ensure that disability is not an impairment to the enjoyment of life in the parish of Birchington
- To, where possible, act as an advocate for anyone needing support
- To raise funds to support all of the above
Current Message
- Check on them: Regularly check in on your neighbours to make sure they are safe, warm, well and not lonely. You can call or knock on their door to ask if they need anything.
- Help with errands: Offer to run errands for your neighbours, such as going to the pharmacy or grocery store.
- Help with food: Offer to do food shopping for your neighbours, especially if they are older or vulnerable and may not leave the house.
- Help with clothing: Make sure your neighbours have the right clothing for winter, including a warm coat, appropriate footwear, and layers.
- Help with supplies: Make sure your neighbours have enough food and medicine. You can also pick up some essential supplies for them when you go out.
- Help with health: Encourage your neighbours to get their flu jab and coronavirus booster vaccine. Also, keep an eye out for illnesses and know when to seek help.
- Help with safety: Make sure your neighbour’s smoke alarms are working. You can also leave your contact number in an obvious place so they can call you if they need help.
